Is leor nod don eolach – A hint is sufficient for the wise
In searching for a quote for St. Patrick’s Day I came across this one by Sean O’Casey.
“Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.”
- Sean O’Casey
This line touched me for several reasons but I used it with my staff because it is so true. This can be in your personal life or your professional life – it is true. The reason I am putting this out there is because if you are a bad manager or just a mediocre one you will be remembered for all eternity by at least one employee. And it will not be for the reasons you want. I mean think about it, in your personal life, reflect to that time when you were at a cocktail party or some other social function and for some reason the topic of conversation turned to work. Usually there is always one in the crowd who will say “I remember this one guy I worked for….” And what follows is usually a tail or woe, of being wronged; of the boss being the butt of the joke because they were just so out of the loop. Maybe even worse examples of how bad at managing they really were.
Every action touches a chord that vibrates in eternity – don’t let that manager they are talking about be you.
This is one of the many reasons I started this site because I don’t want that manager to be you. I would like to see everyone who is interested have the tools at hand to be remembered for being the good manager. The one everyone wants to report into. The one that when the bad examples are done someone else can come along and say – “I worked for a really great leader (manager). They…” I’ll grant you, these stories are rare, but there are some and it can be you they are speaking of.
Every action touches a chord that vibrates in eternity – let that leader be you.
