Whoever “They” are
You know everyone tells you to have a goal. To plan out your day and keep to the “to do” list you created for each day. That if you plan correctly you will have time and the ability to put out any “fires” that come your way. But what they don’t tell you about is the days when you just don’t FEEL up to doing it. The days when you are pushing yourself to get just the bare minimum done. Because you just can’t bring yourself to do anymore than that. They don’t talk about how to deal with the disappointment you have in yourself the next day when you have more work to do. They don’t explain how to cope with the guilt you have every now and then because you just couldn’t bring yourself to do what you usually do.
I’ve been in management for a long time and I can tell you one thing – it’s normal. You will have your good days and you will have your bad days and then you will have days where you just kind of get by with just enough done but not over the top. What I’ve done to deal with it, on my good days, I’m really good. I get as much done as I can. On my bad days I make sure I take notes of what’s missing and also try and find out why is it a bad day (maybe your health is not 100%, maybe you were de-motivated by a peer?). If I can find my triggers for a bad day, I’m less likely to have them. One thing is for sure, I gave up beating myself up over my bad production days a long time ago. That alone helped.
